Arts4Wokingham's Vision: Fostering Local Art for All

Arts4Wokingham is on a mission to foster, secure, and promote local art, with a belief that public art should be accessible to everyone. Their flagship project, The Arc, is an ambitious initiative that has engaged a distinguished female sculptor, Nicola Anthony, who proposed a visionary concept for Wokingham.

Selected from over 60 shortlisted artists, Nicola's design for a striking multi-arched stainless steel sculpture won the commission and is now eagerly anticipated as a new aesthetic and place making sculpture for the borough of Wokingham. Collaborating closely with local residents and community groups, Nicola has sourced stories and experiences that encapsulate the essence of Wokingham. In her signature style these stories will be cut into the steel arches, showcasing meaningful words and phrases. The addition of a digital spoken word experience that can be unlocked via smartphones, and innovative lighting will ensure that The Arc is accessible to all.

Nicola Anthony: A Renowned Artist with a Global Impact

Nicola Anthony's art transcends boundaries, weaving powerful narratives that connect with history, people, and places. Her sculpture which hangs in the foyer of Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation museum earned her the privilege of the work being unveiled by the maestro himself, who remarked: "Your art has the ‘power to plumb the depths of my soul." Nicola's artistic prowess has led to invitations from NGOs, art institutions, and cultural research bodies worldwide.

She has received accolades such as the New Voices of Ireland Award, and earned a place in the esteemed Ingram Collection of British Art. Nicola's influence extends beyond borders. Last month Nicola was a guest speaker at Christies to the international collectors on their annual pilgrimage to Frieze and she has already been recognised as one of the top 50 female artists in UK collections by SmArtify.
