Charity Theatre Night
“The Welkin”
a play by Lucy Kirkwood
Wednesday 14th October 2026 at Wokingham Theatre
Performance starts at 7:45pm (doors & bar open 7pm)
Hot off the press, we bring you some news and an invitation to share in another Wokingham Theatre production which will see all ticket proceeds going to Arts4Wokingham. You will not only be able to enjoy the play but will also know that the money paid for every ticket will help us to promote more public art in and around the Borough. A double whammy. You will be making a significant donation by simply buying a ticket for this charity evening staging.
The play is The Welkin by Lucy Kirkwood, first staged at the National Theatre in 2020.
Rural Suffolk, 1759. Sally Poppy has been sentenced to hang for a brutal murder, but at the eleventh hour, she claims to be pregnant. The court is forced to pause her execution and summon a jury of 12 local, ordinary women to decide her fate. With a restless crowd gathering outside, the matrons must navigate conflicting testimonies, personal prejudices, and the weight of a system that was never designed for them to question. As tensions rise, alliances shift and suspicions grow... because the greatest danger may not lie with the accused, but within the room itself
The bar will be open from 7pm and this is a great time to mingle with like-minded art lovers and those who simply want a great night out. There will be an enticing raffle for those feeling lucky.
It’s sure to be a fantastic evening. Just block the date out now – Wednesday 14th October, 2026. You won’t want to miss it.

Tickets are £20 (plus booking fee). Since this is a charity fundraiser, we are hoping that those attending might decide to add a few extra pounds as an additional donation and round up their purchases. Every few pounds counts towards A4W’s aim to bring more public art into the area.
